In 2010 I made one of the best decisions of my life and had a breast reduction. There had been many unhappy incidents leading up to this decision, one that I particularly remember, when I was the only belle at the prestigious Cambridge University May Ball who was not wearing a ball gown. Why, because my top half wouldn’t fit into a single dress that I liked. I had hidden behind these ghastly air bags for 30 years and the transformation in my physique and self-esteem now knows no bounds. Apart from vanity I had serious back problems, which, after a consultation with a surgeon, it was decided I needed to reduce by 2-cup sizes. I am not a proponent of plastic surgery or any unnecessary surgery but this was essential.

Oh the joy of being able to wear normal clothes and dresses. Trying on a bridesmaid dress for my sister-in-law’s wedding and looking like a pink blancmange should have been the final straw but I actually suffered the indignity for another 10 years before finally doing something about it…
